Being a Junior Naturalist Can Fulfill Your Community Service Hours!

Junior Naturalists are responsible, mature individuals who assist our teachers and set a good example for our young campers. Being a Junior Naturalist is a fabulous experience. It looks great on a resume and a college application, and it is also an easy, fun way of earning your community service hours for high school.

You must have completed eighth grade to be eligible to be a Junior Naturalist. If you are interested in this volunteer position, please download a Junior Naturalist Application 2012 and return it to the ENC office.

We need Junior Naturalists to assist with 2012 Nature Camps!

All new Junior Naturalists MUST have a brief 15 minute interview; returning Junior Naturalists are not required to interview. Please call Lori at the ENC office at (949) 645-8489 to schedule your interview date and time. Students, not parents, are responsible for communicating with ENC staff regarding the Junior Naturalist position.

Remember:

Student Service-Learning and Senior Project Opportunities

For over three decades the Environmental Nature Center (ENC) has committed its resources to fulfilling its mission "to provide quality education through hands-on experience with nature." As we advance through our fourth decade of environmental education, we are making a dedicated commitment to the implementation of service-learning programs at the ENC. Service learning is a teaching and learning strategy that integrates meaningful community service with instruction and reflection to enrich the learning experience. It encourages civic responsibility and personal responsibility as it strengthens communities.

The ENC invites mature, responsible students from local Middle Schools and High Schools to participate in our service learning program. Students will work with ENC staff to participate in projects that help them to learn more about an aspect of the Nature Center of particular interest to them, while at the same time performing valuable, meaningful service for the Nature Center.

Opportunities include:

Download the Service-Learning Projects document to learn more about each of these positions.

Most service learning opportunities are available only during the school year (not in the summer). Applications for the 2011-12 school year will be accepted through February 29, 2012. If you are interested in this program and would like more information, please submit to the ENC office a completed Student Service-Learning Application along with the Student Reference Form (at the end of the document) completed by an adult that is not related to you. Once we receive these documents we will contact you to schedule an interview. Students, not parents, are responsible for communicating with ENC staff regarding service-learning opportunities.
