Survive and Thrive!, 1st Grade
A 60-minute program offered to 1st grade students. Students learn that different plants and animals inhabit many kinds of environments and have external features that help them thrive in various places. They participate in a skit to learn that plants have roots to absorb water and nutrients from the soil and green leaves to make food from sunlight. Students see and touch the real skulls of animals to infer what animals eat from the shapes of their teeth. They see and touch mammal horns, antlers, claws and hooves, and discuss how they help mammals to thrive. They perform experiments and observe owl wings to learn how these amazing birds fly silently to catch their prey. They discuss the adaptations that help reptiles to live in very hot, dry places and touch a live snake. (Science Standards: 2a, 2b, 2e, 2c, 2d, 2e.) Tuition: $5/student (minimum 20, maximum 40 per session).
Insect Investigators, 2nd Grade

Students will participate in an ecosystem building activity and discover the healthy bond that predators and prey share. They will learn about a Southern California animal that is endangered due to habitat loss. Students will plant a native plant to help restore this animal’s habitat, and learn about the sun’s important role in plant growth. (Science Standards: 1a, 3, 3a, 3b, 3c, 3d, 3e.) Detective groups will analyze clues and information to get to the bottom of who is responsible for the pollution. Students will investigate traceable and non-traceable sources of pollution in Orange County and learn how they affect our water supply. (Science Standards: 3a, 3b, 3c, 3d, 3e, 6a, 6b, 6c, 6d, 6e, 6f, 6g, 6h, 6i.) Tuition: $5/student (minimum 20, maximum 40 per session).
Planet Power!, 5th Grade
A 60-minute program offered to 5th grade students. Students learn that most of Earth's water is present as salt water in the oceans and that the amount of fresh water is limited. After viewing a watershed map and discussing water pollution and conservation, they play a game to explore some ways in which water is polluted and cleaned. Students discuss photosynthesis and plant respiration and learn how sugar, water, and minerals are transported in a vascular plant by playing a game in which the entire class becomes a giant tree. This program is best when experienced in the schoolyard. (Science Standards: 2e, 2f, 2g, 3a, 3d, 3e ) Tuition: $5/student (minimum 20, maximum 40 per session).

They will discover the life cycle of everyday products that are made from renewable and non-renewable resources. In a shopping extravaganza game, students will participate in an investigation to find out what the objects they are "buying" are made from. They will develop an awareness of how finite our resources on earth actually are. (Science Standards: 5a, 5b, 5c, 5d, 5e, 6a, 6b, 6c.) Tuition: $5/student (minimum 20, maximum 40 per session).
Habitat Helpers, 6th Grade
A 60-minute program offered to 6th grade students. Students learn that energy enters ecosystems as sunlight, is transferred by producers into chemical energy through photosynthesis and then transferred from organism to organism through food webs. They play an energy pyramid game to learn how matter is transferred over time from one organism to others in the food web. Students also play "Energy Cups" and learn that energy is lost as it passes up through the energy pyramid. They discuss renewable and nonrenewable resources and ways that they can be protected and conserved. This program must be experienced in the schoolyard (due to the use of water in games). (California Science Standards: 5a, 5b, 5d, 5e, 6b.) Tuition: $5/student (minimum 20, maximum 40 per session).
