Creative Writing in Nature: A Home School Workshop with Naturalist Alex Lane

Thursdays in January 2012; 1:30 PM - 3:00 PM

Ralph Waldo Emerson said, "To the dull mind nature is leaden; to the illumined mind the whole world burns and sparkles with light." Nature is often called "pretty," but it could be described as so much more! In this four-week class concentrated on both poetry and prose, we'll explore the works of authors that focus on nature, as well as learn some tips and techniques to improve writing skills. Since reading is the key to writing, we’ll be reading many works of children's literature as well. This workshop will culminate in the creation of a story hike to be displayed at the ENC for the public and students to see. Parents remain with students at all times (unless arrangements have been made with the instructor). This workshop for children ages 8-12 will be limited to 15 students. Fee: $40/child for the 4-week session. For questions, call Meghan at 949-645-8489 ext. 105, or email meghan@encenter.org. View the Creative Writing in Nature flyer.

Amazing Animals: A Home School Workshop with Naturalist Meghan Lockwood

Wednesdays in January, 2012; 1:30 PM - 3:00 PM

Animals come in so many different types, shapes and sizes. Hop, slither, flutter and crawl on over to the ENC’s natural learning environment to explore and discover many different animal families. We'll see magnificent mammals, beautiful birds, radical reptiles, amazing amphibians and astonishing arthropods. Through games, hands-on activities and live-animal friends, we’ll learn facts, dispel myths and gain more respect for the creatures that share our planet. Parents remain with students at all times (unless arrangements have been made with the instructor). This workshop for children ages 5-8 will be limited to 15 students. Fee: $40/child for the 4-week session. For questions, call Meghan at 949-645-8489 ext. 105, or email meghan@encenter.org. View the Amazing Animals flyer.
